Say No to Toxic Incinerator

Waste management company Envar have put forward a planning application for a Healthcare Waste Energy Recovery Facility at The Heath, Woodhurst.

The toxic combination from the incinerator has the potential to harm the environment and those in close proximity to the plant.

The meeting to oppose the plan is at 10am on 19th April at New Shire Hall, Emery Crescent, Enterprise Campus, Alconbury Weald, PE28 4YE.

A study by [NGO] Zero Waste Europe has shown that even state-of-the-art incinerators emit dangerous pollutants.

Further to this, Channel 4’s Dispatches: The Dirty Truth About Your Rubbish highlighted incineration will become more carbon-intensive than landfilling in the UK by 2035 as well as a major source of toxic air pollution.

'Treatment and disposal of healthcare waste may pose health risks indirectly through the release of pathogens and toxic pollutants into the environment such as dioxins and furans.’ As stated by the WHO

Dioxins are highly toxic and are mainly by-products of industrial processes. The quantitative chemical analysis of dioxins requires sophisticated methods that are available only in a limited number of laboratories around the world.

"This is not going away, support is needed from everyone. The more people at the meeting opposing this we can hopefully make them see sense. I don't want it as it will affect the Raptor Foundation immensely, not only the birds but also visitor numbers and accommodation guests. Also other small businesses, schools, conservation programmes, nature reserves, your quality of clean air from all the extra traffic coming through St. Ives and surrounding areas. Show your support by coming to the meeting." Liz McQuillan, The Raptor Foundation.

Who would be conducting an analysis to ensure this proposed plant is adhering to the measures put in place to protect the air, water and soil?
